SSD Seminar Series with Mr. Máté Koch
Monday, December 5, 2022, 4 to 5 pm
On December 5, 2022 we welcome Mr. Máté Koch, Innovation and Technology Lead at International Defense and Security, CAE GmbH, as speaker in our SSD Seminar Series.
The Seminar will take place in Rogowski Building, Room 115, Schinkelstraße 2, 52062 Aachen.
Synthetic Environments - Large Scale Simulation for Analysing Complex Situations
In simulation based training (e.g. pilot training) synthetic environments have been used for decades to provide a digital representation of the world outside of the trainee’s aircraft. Synthetic environments provide the realistic 3D terrain as well as the computer generated entities, the interaction of those, the weather, the radio wave propagation and many more simulated aspects of the real world. Depending on the fidelity and the entity count such simulations were computationally highly expensive. With cloud technology and scalable design, today we can push the boundaries of synthetic environments and simulate complex scenarios involving millions of entities. This scalability allows to go beyond the traditional training scenario and use simulation to support policy or decision making in complex scenarios such as a large-scale event, or a natural catastrophe.
As a next step, we can train AI agents in such environments to support the human decision making process by offering alternatives.
In the talk challenges around scaling up simulation and potential solutions, design patterns will be discussed, and a few proofs of concept demonstrated.
